Online NES emulator (plus Ian Pooley)

March 2nd, 2008

Nintendo8: play every Nintendo game from your browser!

Super Mario Heaven. Instead of time wasting on teh intraweb you might as well waste it playing Java powered, vNES run online ROMs. Shame there’s no RSS feed for their NES Game Of The Day.

Something UnRelated for 2 March 2008 happens to be Balmes (A Better Life) from Ian Pooley with vocals by Esthero. Chilled down funky house with a tad bit of Brazilian in the mix. Keeper. There’s also Pooley’s New Vocal Mix if you like the original.

Teh Trainrider

February 17th, 2008

The Trainrider is some d00d from Germany who train rides (go figure). This 24 min. video is quite a thrill to watch, and really gives you an urge to ride trains. The extreme trainriding on the bullet train at 330km/h starts at around 12:30 min.

Getting to YouTube from school/work

February 17th, 2008
  1. Access YouTube through it’s IP address.
  2. Use it through the TOR network by installing xB Browser (a portable Firefox with the TOR plugin).
  3. Find a public proxy through Google (most of these will be blocked, you may have to go through many pages).
  4. Subscribe to a paid VPN service (such as SecureIX or Relakks) - this is if you’re really desperate.

These work at my school, but they may not work at yours. Then again you may not have such boring computer-related classes which drive you insane, since you’re the finished-everything-in-5-minutes-have-to-sit-do-nothing-for-rest-of-class kinda guy. Nothing, that is, apart from figuring out how to get onto YouTube!

Stronglifts & Nightmares On Wax

February 15th, 2008

You know what they say about exercise, and how it releases anti depressants and endorphins, and makes you feel better? Well it’s true, over the last few weeks I’ve got a routine going by following Stronglifts’ 5×5 beginner strength training program. It’s really well planned out, 3x a week, full body. After starting it, I feel as if I have more energy (redundantly).

Pandora still sucks for not letting folks outside of U.S.A. in. Not to worry, there’s last.fm. After listening to a few thousand tracks, I can say that their ‘recommendation’ system works relatively well. I had to skip about 10 songs before finding one I like, and it just happened to be ‘I Am You’ by Nightmares On Wax, from their 2006 album ‘In A Space Outta Sound’. After a bit of digging I found their 1995 ‘Smoker’s Delight’, and I’m very, very much enjoying that right now. It’s acoustic-trip-hop-hip-hop-dub-ish stuff. Really smooth flow. If you’re looking for something new to listen to, get Smoker’s Delight.

NFL most boring sport: 12 minutes of play

January 31st, 2008

Macleans has a great article on action/inaction ratios of popular sports. An average NFL game takes 3 hours, yet the ball is in play for a grand total of 12 minutes. American football is fun to play, but this is just another reason not to follow it.

Call of Duty 4 Level 55 in 5 minutes or less!

January 25th, 2008

Call of Duty 4 is a very addicting and fun game.

What’s even more fun is that you can get to level 55 with all unlocks and challenges completed by downloading an mpdata file, changing your CD key, replacing mpdata file, and changing your CD key back to the original. This is helpful for people who just got the game, as its very easy to level up so most players are already level 55. This is to give you that extra edge over other n00bz.

I tried this when it first came out, and its still working for me. It’s worth a shot.

I sure hope you know how to use Google’s “search” function. Here’s a link to start you off, and you should be good to go after a bit of digging.

Generative MIDI: Noatikl

December 18th, 2007

Noatikl deems itself a MIDI generator, and from what I’ve seen that’s what it is. Plus it seems have most extensive features yet. How many MIDI generators do you let in your bathroom?

Here’s the product page from Intermorphic, and here’s a video of it in action, running through Absynth and Nord Modular. Warning: video is So Very Cool, you will find yourself needing moar Noatikl.
